This workshop is aimed at beginners and those with experience of bookbinding who are not familiar with the process of making a cased book. Cased books consist of a rigid spine sitting at 90 degrees to hard covers. They are frequently used for textbooks, journals and notebooks and are quite robust.
We will start the workshop by discussing the basic principles of bookbinding and then use a sewing technique called French stitch to make our books. Once sewn, the book block will be put in a press, glued and lined to give it strength. Endpapers will be tipped in and a hard cover made out of board to fit the dimensions of the book. The workshop lasts a day. All materials and lunch are included.
